The 56th October Salon Awards
Artists Siniša Ilić from Serbia, Syun River Sun from China and Anastasia Vepreva from Russia, are the equal winners of the 56th October Salon Awards in Belgrade, as it was announced on 5 November at the closing of this international exhibition.
The theme of this year’s exhibition called “Pleassure of Love” was devised by the British curator David Elliott, and the works from 70 artists from Serbia and around the world were presented.
Siniša Ilić received a 250,000 dinars monetary reward from the 56th October Salon, and equal honorary awards were given to Syun River Xun and Anastasia Veprova.
Based on the decision of the jury consisted of director of the Museum of Modern Art Astrup Fearnley in Oslo Gunnar B. Kvaran (Chairman), art historian and curator of the Gallery "Beograd" Jelena Krivokapić and artist and professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade Milorad Mladenović, Ilić won the 56th October Salon monetary reward for the installation "Bez predloga konkretnog rešenja" (2016) consisted of a video, a large drawing and movables.
KCB, the organizer of the 56th October Salon, also granted equal awards to a Japanese artist Asako Shiroki and Bojan Fajfrić from Belgrade, who lives and works in Amsterdam.
The KCB award was granted based on the decision of the jury consisted of Nela Tonković Director of the Contemporary Gallery in Subotica and KCB curators Zorana Đaković Miniti and Gordana Dobrić.
According to the organizers, 15.784 visitors have visited the 56th October Salon by the closing weekend.
Chosen by David Elliot, 67 artists from 26 countries were presented at the 56th October Salon, some of which were invited, and the others were selected on a competitive basis:

In total, 19 artists from Serbia have participated, and about 30 artists overall were younger than 40- which was one of the conditions for selection on a competitive basis, along with a geographical limit on countries which were historically or geographically connected to Serbia during its turbulent past.
The October Salon did not take place in 2015 because during the closing of the 55th October Salon, the Belgrade City Council decided to transform it into an event that will be organized biannually, which caused strong reactions in the public.
